If climate change is human-made, must the solution also be human-made? A Piece of Nature proposes a different approach: allowing nature to take care of itself.

The work consists of a circular field defined by untreated wooden posts placed in the landscape around the Rebild Centre. Within this area, no irrigation, mowing, grazing, fertilising, or other forms of management are permitted. The site is simply left alone.

Over time, natural succession transforms the field into its own evolving biotope—first grasses, then pioneer species, shrubs, and eventually a small grove. Through this process, the work absorbs and stores CO₂ while creating space for biodiversity.

The installation is intended to remain beyond the exhibition period. Time and natural processes are its primary materials. Though modest in scale, the work serves as a reflection on our relationship with nature and as a simple demonstration of how doing less can sometimes achieve more.
