Intervention – Quick and Dirty Hostile Takeover of “Mogens Ulderup’s Archive 1995–2021”

An intervention is an intrusion into a situation in order to prevent a certain outcome or alter a development. This may occur in physical urban planning, architecture, politics, or economic contexts. (Or all at once.)

Jonas Sangberg’s intervention into the exhibition “Mogens Ulderup’s Archive 1995–2021” consists of a combination of actual works and site-specific interventions created especially for/in Prospekt’s space and the ongoing exhibition itself. A number of the works have previously been exhibited in other contexts, but are now presented in new constellations and installations. Others have been created specifically for this exhibition.

The works and interventions are conceived as a total installation of readymades, found objects, paintings, sculptures, hybrid forms, and more. The ambition is to create a dialogue between Mogens Ulderup’s (colorful) photographic archive and its display, and Jonas Sangberg’s (monochrome) works. A form of dialogue in which the rapid intervention creates a conflict/remix/rupture — much like when a fast graffiti piece suddenly appears on a building. (Or when a group of squatters occupies an abandoned building.)

The exhibition idea and concept came together just ten days before the opening. Mogens Ulderup and Jonas Sangberg chose to use this speed as both a constraint and an expression of their shared fascination with the aesthetics of the fleeting and the temporary.
